Kora Smith, O.D.

Medical Eye Care Specialist

Originally from Marion, Indiana, Dr. Kora Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from her hometown university, Indiana Wesleyan , where she attained her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. She graduated with her Doctor of Optometry Degree from Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana.

Externships at the Department of Veterans Affairs Evansville Health Care Center in Evansville, Indiana, and the Lexington VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, provided her with valuable knowledge in low-vision outpatient blind rehabilitation services and vision therapy, and her rotation at Cataract & Laser Institute in Kokomo, Indiana, where she gained hands-on experience in a secondary-care facility working with patients with cataracts, glaucoma, and cornea or retina issues, sparked her passion to help those with ocular disease. Dr. Smith was an active volunteer during her time at Indiana University, participating in the Indianapolis Vision Walk benefitting Foundation Fighting Blindness, and volunteering her time and skills to Indiana University Elementary School Vision Screenings and to the MLK Day Eye Exams for Underserved Populations, sponsored by Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). Dr. Smith demonstrated solid leadership skills while serving as an Ambassador at the Office of Student Administration and being an Associate Instructor while at Indiana University.

Dr. Smith’s specialties include advanced medical and peri-surgical care including surgical co-management for cataracts and the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases including macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, among others. Her goal as a provider of consultative care for patients requiring surgical or advanced medical care is to help patients have an understanding and comfort level with the treatments and procedures necessary to address their visual and eye health needs.

Dr. Smith enjoys game nights with friends, traveling, drinking lattes and reading at coffee shops, and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.
